All About HEPA Air Purifiers
![]() |
HEPA air purifiers are some of the most effective purifiers available today. HEPA is not a brand of purifier, but an acronym that stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air, or High Efficiency Particulate Arrestance (or Arrestor). There are some strict guidelines that must be adhered to before an air filter can be classified as a HEPA.
A filter must remove 99.97 percent of particles that are 0.3 microns for it to be qualified as a HEPA filter or purifier. To put this into perspective, that's around 300 times smaller than the diameter of a strand of human hair. That's so tiny that it cannot be seen by the naked eye. It's a proven fact that most of the air found indoors is up to five times more contaminated than the air outside. With statistics like that, it's highly likely that you and your family are breathing in these microscopic particles.
When shopping for a HEPA air purifier, steer clear of those that are designated as HEPA-type. These are not HEPA filters and may only capture 50 percent or so of what an authentic HEPA filter would. A HEPA filter circulates and exchanges the air in the room where it's operating. The more times the air is cycled through the filter, the cleaner it will become.
HEPA air filters can not only remove microscopic particles of dust from the air, but other contaminants as well. This includes smoke particles, pet dander, dust mites, bacteria, certain viruses and more. If you smoke or own an indoor pet, you should definitely consider an air purifier. People with allergies find that using a quality air purifier often provides relief for their uncomfortable symptoms.
There are a variety of different HEPA air purifiers on the market these days, offered by many different manufacturers. They come in different sizes, and different prices also. When you're shopping for an air purifier, make sure you understand the dimensions of the area it's designed to clean. You will probably need more than one purifier for various rooms and floors of your home. Another thing you'll need to consider is the fact that you'll need to replace your HEPA filters periodically for optimum results. All in all, HEPA air purifiers are effective and affordable, and a great choice for anyone who wants the air in their home to be as clean and healthy as possible.
