Choosing the Best Home Air Purifiers

Did you know that the air inside of your home is most likely up to five times dirtier than the air outside? This is a fact that was discovered through a highly publicized study of air quality in homes and workplaces. It's a scary statistic, and what's worse is that you cannot even see the majority of contaminants in the air because they're so microscopic. This is why so many people are turning to home air purifiers to cleanse and purify the air in their homes.
There are many different kinds of air purifiers from which you can choose. Some of the most common and widely available types include HEPA, ionic, and UV. Let's take a look at these different types of purifiers and how they operate:
HEPA: HEPA is not a brand name, but an acronym that stands for High Energy Particulate Arrestance (The A can also stand for Air or Absorbing.) In order for an air purifier to bear the HEPA acronym, it must be able to remove 99.97% of particles that are 0.3 micrometers in size. To get an idea of how small this is, think of a particle 300 times smaller than the diameter of a human hair. There are lots of HEPA air purifiers that you can purchase to cleanse the air in your home. Some of them use disposable filters, while others use filters that you wash and replace.
Ionic: Ionic air purifiers work by colliding with airborne particles and giving them a negative ionic charge. These particles become too heavy to stay in the air and float to the ground. At this point, you can either vacuum or dust them away, or you can choose an ionic air purifier that traps the particles and gets rid of them. One of the most popular ionic purifiers out there today is the Ionic Breeze.
UV: UV air purifiers use ultraviolet light to destroy microscopic particles such as dust, dander, mites, smoke particles, bacteria, mold and more. These are probably the newest and most advanced types of home air purifiers available today. Basically, air is drawn into the air purifier and sanitized with the ultraviolet light, then circulated back into the room.
